One of the most famous artists in the world. He was a surrealist, a film-maker, a costume, jewellery & set designer, a writer and an all-round font of artistic creation. Salvador Dali was born in Figueres in 1904, after early painting tuition in the town he studied in Madrid. Later, on the tail of Miro and Picasso he went to Paris, and then after meeting Andre Breton and the surrealists Dali would go on to become one of the most famous artists in the world within his lifetime. Dali made a name for himself in America in the 30’s with his now famous melting clocks and surrealist landscapes. His birthplace and surrounding environs were never far away in his artistic output and Dali himself would always come back to the environment that marked him so profoundly as a Catalan. He produced works of art right up until the 80's and his stylistic periods show an ever inquisitive and perspicacious intellect. Dali was an expert media manipulator and courted controversy throughout (and after) his life, his politics and personality have clouded the fact that his creative and technical virtuosity produced an amazing body of work. Dali died in Figueres in 1989 where he is buried in the fabulous Museu Teatre Dali. The Dali Tour aims to view Dali’s works as a product of — and within — his native Catalunya. Dali Web Links
